Tasveer-o-Musawwar
PAINTING AND THE PAINTER

Tasveer
PAINTING

Kaha Tasveer Ne Tasweer Gar Se
Numaish Hai Meri Tere Hunar Se

Said the portrait to its Painter:
"My manifestation attests to Thine unbounded Skill"

Wa Lekin Kis Qaddar Na-Munsafi Hai
Ke Tu Poshida Ho Meri Nazar Se!

And yet what a violation of justice it is that
You should remain hid from my sight

Musawwar
THE PAINTER

Garan Hai Chasm-E-Bina Didah Wer Par
Jahan Beeni Se Kya Guzri Sharar Par!

The vision endowed to those that observe find it oppressive:
See for yourself how the spark burnt itself out when it saw the world!

Nazar Dard-o-Gham-o-Souz-o-Tab-o-Taab
Tu Ae Nadan, Qana’at Kar Khabar Par

What aught is sight but sadness, gloom, feverishness and self‐torment:
Rest, or you ignorant (of the mysteries), upon report.

Tasveer
THE PORTRAIT

Khabar, Aqal-o-Kirad Ki Natawani
Nazar, Dil Ki Hayat Javedani

What aught is report but the impotence of ratiocination and wisdom?
Vision is the eternal springtide of life.

Nahin Hai Iss Zamane Ki Tag-o-Taaz
Sazawar-e-Hadees-e-'Lan Tarani'

The hustle and the bustle of the present age does not permit one
To express oneself melodiously.

Musawwar
THE PAINTER

Tu Hai Mere Kamalat-e-Hunar Se
Na Ho Naumeed Apne Naqsh Gar Se

You do exist because the Perfection of My Art.
Do not, then, feel cast out in disappointment with Him that has drawn you

Mere Didar Ki Hai Ek Yehi Sharat
Ke Tu Pinhan Na Ho Apni Nazar Se

I only put one condition if you wish to see Me:
Never disappear from thine own sight.

  3. I think translation of "Lan Tarani" is not "melodiously", it may be "You Can't See Me".

    1. I agree with you but add: It is almost impossible to catch the thought behind this verse. I tend to think that if one refers to the ayah of Quran,it should mean "Participation in the struggle required for this age is not prohibited (for Muslims) That is to say Even Muslims can participate and be benefited by participating in the struggle required to succeed.
