Jab Ishq Sikhata Hai Adab-e-Khud Agaahi
Khule Hain Ghulamon Par Asrar-e-Shehanshahi
When through the Love man conscious grows of respect self‐awareness needs,
Though in chains, he learns at once the regal mode and kingly deeds.
Attar Ho, Rumi Ho, Razi Ho, Ghazali Ho
Kuch Hath Nahin Ata Be Aah-e-Sahargahi
Like Rumi, Attar, Ghazzali and Razi, One may be mystic great or wise,
But none can reach his goal and aim without the help of morning sighs.
Naumeed Na Ho In Se Ae Rahbar-e-Farzana
Kamkosh To Hain Lekin Be-Zauq Nahin Raahi
No need for leaders sage and great to lose all hope of Muslim true:
Though amiss this pilgrim be, Yet can burn on fire like rue.
Ae Tair-e-Lahooti! Uss Rizq Se Mout Achi
Jis Rizq Se Ati Ho Parwaz Mein Kotahi
O Bird, who flies to the Throne of God, You must keep this truth in sight,
To suffer death is nobler far Than bread that clogs your upward flight.
Dara-o-Sikandar Se Woh Mard-e-Faqeer Aula
Ho Jis Ki Faqeeri Mein Boo-e-Asadullahi
A person poor and destitute, Who walks in steps of God’s Lion bold,
Is more exalt’d than monarchs great: He spurns the worldly wealth and gold.

DeleteTahir means bird and lahoot means cage so tahir lahooti means bird in a cage
DeleteBrother Lahoot is our real home, this world is lasoot and lahoot is what we call alam arwah., our Rooh, spirit is not from earth but from Alam e Lahoot or alam e amar in quran.. The place where our Soul promised ALLAH..ALASTU Birabi. Ask somebody what is alastu rabi mean. Its the promise our soul made with ALLAH in our real home,
DeleteIn this poem Ilama Sahib telling about Knowing ourselves, Coz Hidden in Us is no one, but ALLAH Himself.
in Quran ALLAH SAYS:
"nahnu aqrab ileyhi min hablil wareed" "i am in your juglar vein"
"wa fi anfusikum afala tubsiroon" "I am In you....dont you see"
Hadees Mubarak
"man arafa nafsuhu fan arafa rabahu"
So who ever discovers Him, He gets the goal of his creation. Because Nothing is more important then ALLAH, we ignore ALLAH and desire for Jannat.

Hi, it's quite difficult to find any book that deals with explanation of Iqbal's poetry. May be you can read literature resources about Iqbal's philosophy - khudi and the metaphors used by him. That might help you in understanding Iqbal's kalaam.

=========================================
Today is the 127th Birth day of our Great National Poet
Allama Muhammad Iqbal who was also a great patriotic , banefactor
and ancepter of Pakistan and he was admired by all foreign countries
As a great classical poet.
When I was a student of forth class at MADERASAH ITEHAD-UL-ISLAM in Karachi, I used to read all the books of Allama Iqbal in my father library and specially BANG –e- DARA and I had learnt & memorized many Nos of poems of Bang -e-Dara and BAL –e-JABRAIL by Heart. Allama Iqbal was really a great national poet, anceptor. Patriotic and Islamic Scholer.
One day my head master asked me to prepare at least three to five beautiful posters of good verses of the poems of Allama Iqbal & Hali etc for hanging on the walls of class rooms Hence I had prepared five Nos of beautiful posters of the selected verses of poems of Allama Iqbal in which my one poster
Of ( AE TAHIR LAA HOOTI ) was appreciated very much by our all school teachers and Head Master. I had selected this verse of the poem from book of BAL-e-JABRAIL, one of the most popular book
of Allama Iqbal . In those days ,this book of Allama Iqbal was widely being read by all educated and literary persons of Pakistan.
in most interested ways . The head master had given me a prize
.It was a gift packet of books of MUSADDAS –E-HALI and DIWAN-E-GJALIB .
The verse was following
AE TAIR LAA HOTI ,USS RIZQ SE MOUT ACHI
JIS RIZQ SE AATi HOO PERWAZ MEN KOTAHI
( VERSE FROM BAL-E-JABRAIL OF ALLAMA IQBAL )

O ethereal bird! It is better to starve to death,
Than to live on a prey that clogs thy wings in flight.
Wah kya baat hai!
Amandeep Singh your paraphrase of Iqbal's verse ......Ae Tair e lahooti ! is superb. I think so few people have been able to describe it. Are you student of Urdu Literature?
