Faqr

Ek Faqr Sikhata Hai Sayyad Ko Nakhcheeri
Ek Faqr Se Khulte Hain Asrar-e-Jahangeeri

There is a faqr that teaches the hunter to be a prey;
There is another that opens the secrets of mastery over the world.

Ek Faqr Se Qoumon Mein Maskeeni-o-Dilgeeri
Ek Faqr Se Mitti Mein Khasiyat-e-Ikseeri

There is a faqr that is the root of needfulness and misery among nations;
There is another that turns mere dust into elixir.

Ek Faqr Hai Shabiri, Is Faqr Se Hai Meeri
Meeras-e-Musalmani, Sarmaya-e-Shabiri!

One faqr is Shabiri, and it has qualities of emperor
Which is Muslim heritage and real wealth of Shabir.

      Faqr the the attitude of selflessness. Iqbal explains different types of Faqr and then in end he highlights that for Muslims the inheritance of Hazrat Imaam e Hussain RA is the only thing. they should follow that.

    Can anyone please explain these lyrics ? I am not sure if fakr is positive or something negative ? How you differentiate concept of khudi from fakr ?

    There are two kind of Faqr. First which teaches a hunter to be the prey(it is negative). The other which opens the secret of mastery over the world.
    Iqbal in this poem differentiate the two types of Faqr. The concepts of Faqr has been missed understood by some in islamic history. Iqbal believed that real faqr bring social change.
