Khatab Ba Jawanan-e-Islam
Address To The Muslim Youth
Kabhi Ae Naujawan Muslim, Tadabbur Bhi Kiya Tu Ne
Woh Kya Gardoon Tha Tu Jis Ka Hai Ek Toota Huwa Tara
Have ever you pondered, O Muslim youth, On deep and serious things?
What is this world in which this you is only a broken star?
Tujhe Iss Qoum Ne Pala Hai Aghosh-e-Muhabbat Mein
Kuchal Dala Tha Jis Ne Paon Mein Taj-e-Sar-e-Dara
You came of a stock that nourishes you In the close embracing of love,
A stock that trampled under foot Dara who wore the crown.
Tamaddun Afreen, Khallaq-e-Aaeen-e-Jahandari
Woh Sehra-e-Arab Yani Shutar-Banon Ka Gehwara
Civilization’s grace they forged to a world‐disposing law,
Those folks that came from the Arab sands that cradled their camel‐men.
Sama ‘Al-Faqru Fakhri’ Ka Raha Shan-e-Amarat Mein
‘Baab-o-Rang-o-Khal-o-Khat Che Hajat Rooye Zaibara’
The simple life was the pride they had in their deeds of glorious show.
How does the lovely face feel need of rouge and mole and art?
Gadai Mein Bhi Woh Allah Wale The Ghayoor Itne
Ke Mun’em Ko Gada Ke Dar Se Bakhshish Ka Na Tha Yara
In pure plain life and in fear of God they lived their modest way.
The rich man stood in no fear of the poor that he gives his wealth in fee.
Gharz Main Kya Kahun Tujh Se Ke Woh Sehra Nasheen Kya The
Jahangeer-o-Jahan Dar-o-Jahan Baan-o-Jahan Aara
In short, in words can I tell to you what were these desert men?
Holders, Keepers, Saviours, Adorners of what we call the world.
Agar Chahon To Naqsha Khainch Kar Alfaz Mein Rakh Dun
Magar Tere Takhiyyul Se Se Fazoon Tar Hai Woh Nazara
If I should draw the sketch aright limning the form in words,
The vision I’d draw would be better far than all your fancy paints.
Tujhe Aaba Se Apne Koi Nisbat Ho Nahin Sakti
Ke Tu Guftar Woh Kirdar, Tu Sabit Woh Sayyara
There is no standard by which to judge Yours and your father’s worth.
You utter words but they did deeds. They roamed: you stay at home.
Ganwa Di Hum Ne Jo Aslaf Se Meeras Payi Thi
Surreya Se Zameen Par Asman Ne Hum Ko De Mara
We have despoiled the inheritance that we from our fathers won.
The heaven from the zenith has dashed it down
Hukumat Ka To Kya Rona Ke Woh Ek Aarzi Shay Thi
Nahin Dunya Ke Aaeen-e-Musallam Se Koi Chara
And cast it on the ground. what is this weeping at ordered things
That it is the affair of a day? Except the help of all‐certain law
Magar Woh Ilm Ke Moti, Kitabain Apne Aaba Ki
Jo Dekhain In Ko Yourap Mein Tou Dil Hota Hai Seepara
The world has no other plan. but if those pearls of learning’s lore,
Those books our fathers wrote we see in Europe made scholar’s joy, The heart is rent with grief.
"Ghani Rouz-e-Siyah-e-Peer-e-Kanaan Ra Tamasha Kun
Ke Noor-e-Didah Ash Roshan Kunan Chashm-e-Zulekhara”
O Ghani*, behold the darkened day Kinan’s old man once knew,
That the light of his eyes to Zuleikha’s eyes might bring the brightness of sight.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullah,
ReplyDeleteCan we start from today itself!!
Dear Muslim Brothers,
What went wrong with our Ummah.....????
"" You utter words but they did deeds. They roamed: you stay at home ""
So every one of us knows what went wrong. This was all education system that drowned us into the sea where we where not able to float ashore. Can we start it today...??
We need to co-operate with each other at every step. Let me explain how...
Schools at primary level that will teach the basic fundamentals of Islam. In depth study of education, research, philosophy, architecture, engineering of great Islamic scholars and scientists. How Muslim’s contributed in the fields of science and technology.
How we lost all this in the hands of yahood and nasara. What was the root cause; we lost all this incredible wealth. Which areas we have to work to get all this again. How Muslim’s can be back in power and leaders in science, technology and research.
Develop research centers that will encourage our young Muslim students to do research for Ummah
Assalamu Alaikum
Your Brother
we lost all this because we were sepreted into groups and the europeans are ere ruling science and technology because they study all this from the quran and follow it and because they follow and learn from the quran ALLAH gave them power but they r still afaird of muslim unity.there is a hadith "ilm musalman ke gumshuda mirath hai , issay jahan se miley le ley" but today we lost our intrest in knowlegde.even though iqbal isnot with us he is still trying to wake us up by his poetry.
DeleteGOOD INFORMATION......
DeleteMy dear brothers,Iqbal is so true in saying all this but reason behind our downfall is first neglecting our Deen and secondly no hardworking. Sahaba karam attained those heights which today we can't even imagine b.coz they surrendered themselves for Allah (s.w.t) and Allah granted them with every thing they could. Islam is the only path which can bring back our lost glory and respect.
DeleteAssalamu Alaikum,

It is the real time for us to wake up now and only now, we have no tomorrow.

ReplyDeletemusalmano k zavaaal ki sab se bari waja yehi h k hm ne is kaam ko chor diya.... sahaba kraam ne jb tk is kaam ko apna maqsad bana kr kia wo saari dunya per ghaalib rahay.... agar hum is kaam ko apna masqad e zindgi bana lain to hum is zavaal se nikal sakte hain.... sb se bara haadsa ye hua k h logo ne is ko kaam hi samjha... is lie deen hamari zindgi se nikla... aur hum aaj naam k musalmaan reh gae... shukriya

DeleteWell Iqbal was a wonderful leader. Well this is the best advice Iqbal could have given us the nojawans(youth) of Islam but one more thing that in order to maintain poetic style, the English translation has been distorted and message of Iqbal becomes vague. It would be a lot easier that a non poetic version of translation be posted for all those who cannot understand persian and urdu language
ReplyDeleteKaash yeh kalaam dil ko lag jaata, aur zindagiyan badal jaatin
ReplyDeletei want the name of this poem's translator.
ReplyDeleteAsalaamo Alaikum, Sir Dr. Mohammed Iqbal was:- Philosopher , Lawyer, Literary, Linguistic, Researcher, Poet, and Great Sufi, etc. When asked how come you are called Haqeem-al-Umma? He replied you can also attain this glory by my example, “ I have recited Darood-o Salam on Prophet Muhammad ( Nabi Pak ) S.A.W.S – one corer ( 10, 000, 000 ) times. Subhan Allah can you imagine his love for our beloved Prophet S.A.W.S. Throughout his poetic teaching, this is what he is trying to bring to the heart of the Muslim youth, that follow the example of the Prophet S.A.W.S. Practice the teachings, imitate Rasul’Allah, and be true Muslim. Than no hurdle will hold you back from being great, and leader of mankind in the world. There are so many references from his books to back-up what I have said here, that it would take numerous pages and I would still fall short of realization of the vision of this great personality. This is summarized in his epic poem the Jawabay Shiqwa, where he answers from Allah Subhanna-hu-wa-Ta’alla to the Muslim individual:-
ReplyDeleteKI MUHAMMAD SAY WAFA TU NAY, TOU HUM TAREY HAAIN
YEAH JAHHA’N JEEZ HAI KIYA? LO-HO QALAM TEREY HAAIN
Basic mean of which to my humble understanding is:-
Allah subhaan-hu-wa-ta-a’la replies to the complaints of the Muslim ummah, (at both plural and singular levels), of their fall and demise in the worldly ranks. Allah says :-
IF YOU ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE TO (PROPHET) MUHAMMAD (S.A.W.A), THAN I ALLAH AM YOURS
WHAT IS THIS WORLD? I WILL GIVE YOU THE DIVINE TABLET AND PEN, YOU WRITE YOUR OWN DESTINY
Elaboration will take a lot of time. As regards this poem. It was read by Haqeem Al Ummat at the Punjab University to the student body (to inspire young Muslim youth to carry his revivalist mission forward).
He reminds the young Muslim of his great heritage and belonging, and to realize who he truly is.
That his ancestors were camel herders from sandy lands of Arabia. They illuminated the Earth with Islamic teachings, (Civilization, Moral conduct, Tawheed - faith in ones of Allah, and awareness of hereafter, etc).
Their pride was in simple life where there was no greed. How can a pure beautiful face want to have fake color and moles on it? In other, words when Allah gives you Glory, you don’t desire anything else from anyone.
Even in humble state they were so proud of their modesty. The rich were afraid to offer charity, that it would be rejected and thrown back at their faces.
What can I tell what were these sand dwellers. Holders, Keepers, Saviors, Adorners of what we call the World.
If I desire I could draw the picture write in front of you in words. But that vision is beyond your perceptions.
Their cannot be similarity between You and your Ancestors. You are man of Words and they of Deeds, you are bound by your surroundings and they were in pursuit of destiny.
O Muslim we have lost the heritage of our for fathers. The sky has thrown us from glory of Zenith to the earth.
What of the loss of Empire? Nations come and go they are temporary. There is no control over who rules.
But our true loss is those Pearls of Wisdom, the Books of our for Fathers. When you see them in Europe, the heart shatters.
O Ghani*, behold the darkened day Kinan’s old man once knew,
That the light of his eyes to Zuleikha’s eyes might bring the brightness of sight.
I.e. -- O Ghani behold the darkness that Hazart Yaqoob P.B.U.H. once knew. That the light of his eyes (Hazrat Yousaf P.B.U.H) who is light of Zuleikha’s eyes, may bring the lost sight of his back.
The rest you can ponder over. Hazrat Yaqoob alai-islam had lost his sight without Hazrat Yousaf alai-Islam. When Hazrat Yousaf alai-Islam sent the robe to his father and Harat Yaqoob alai-Islam put it on his face the eye sight returned.
Thus Doctor sahib is giving the Muslim youth his knowledge that they may see the light and find their destiny.
I am a humble brother of your. If you like what I wrote please pray for me, and if I said anything that you don't like forgive me. Jazak Allah o Khair.
