(Bang-e-Dra-084) Faraak

Firaq
Separation

Talash-e-Gosha-e-Uzlat Mein Phir Raha Hun Main
Yahan Pahar Ke Daman Mein Aa Chupa Hun Main

I am wandering in search of some lonely retreat.
I have hid myself here by the great mountains’ feet.

Shikasta Geet Mein Chashmon Ke Dilbari Hai Kamal
Dua-e-Tiflik-e-Guftar Azma Ki Misal

Like the halting attempts of a small boy to pray,
The spring’s music is broken—my joy hath full sway.

Hai Takht-e-La'al-e-Shafaq Par Jaloos-e-Akhtar-e-Sham
Behisht-e-Didah-e-Beena Hai Husn-e-Manzar-e-Sham

To the red twilight’s throne comes the eve’s starry race;
‘This a vision of heaven thus to see beauty’s face.

Sukoot-e-Sham-e-Judai Huwa Bahana Mujhe
Kisi Ki Yaad Ne Sikhla Diya Tarana Mujhe

Still eve’s separation’s excuse for my mood;
Some memory has taught me how music is good.

Ye Kaifiat Hai Meri Jaan-e-Na-Shakiba Ki
Meri Misal Hai Tifl-e-Sagheer-e-Tanha Ki

My life is all restless—unrest is mine own—
It is just as I were like some small boy alone.

Andheri Raat Mein Karta Hai Woh Surood Aaghaz
Sada Ko Apni Samajhta Hai Ghair Ki Awaz

When the night is all dark he commences to hum
And he thinks that the sound from some other has come.

Yunhi Mein Dil Ko Payam-e-Shakeeb Deta Hun
Shab-e-Firaq Ko Goya Faraib Deta Hun

The lessons of patience I teach my heart,
As though to night’s sev’rance I show a false part.
