(Zarb-e-Kaleem-165) Abyssinia

Abyssinia
(18 August 1935)

Yourap Ke Kargason Ko Nahin Hai Abho Khabar
Hai Kitni Zahernaak Abyssinia Ki Lash

Those vultures of the West have yet to learn
What poisons lurk in Abyssinia’s corpse,

Hone Ko Hai Ye Muda-e-Dairina Qash Qash!

That rotting carcass ready to fall in pieces.

Tehzeeb Ka Kamal Sharafat Ka Hai Zawal
Gharatgari Jahan Mein Hai Aqwam Ki Ma’ash

Civilization’s zenith, nadir of virtue;
In our world pillage is the nation’s trade,

Har Gurg Ko Hai Barah-e-Maasoom Ki Talash!

Each wolf aprowl for inoffensive lambs.

Ae Waye Aabrooye Kaleesa Ka Aeena
Roma Ne Kar Diya Sar-e-Bazar Pash Pash

Woe to the shining honour of the Church,
For Rome has shivered it in the market‐place!

Peer-e-Kalisa! Ye Haqiqat Hai Dilkharash!

Sharp‐clawed, oh Holy Father, is the truth.
