(Bang-e-Dra-038) Sargazisht-e Adam

Sargazisht-e-Adam
The Story Of Adam

Sune Koi Meri Ghurbat Ki Dastan Mujh Se
Bhulaya Qissa-e-Peman-e-Awaleen Main Ne

What a story I have to tell, to anyone who will listen,
Of how I travelled in foreign lands!

Lagi Na Meri Tabiat Riyaz-e-Jannat Mein
Piya Shaur Ka Jab Jaam-e-Aatisheen Main Ne

I forgot the story of the First Covenant. In the garden of heaven,
When 1 drank the fiery cup of awareness I felt uneasy.

Rahi Haqiqat-e-Alam Ki Justujoo Mujh Ko
Dikhaya Auj-e-Khiyal-e-Falak Nasheeen Main Ne

I have always searched for the truth about the world,
Showing the celestial heights of my thought.

Mila Mazaj Tagiyur Pasand Kuch Aesa
Kiya Qarar Na Zair-e-Falak Kahin Main Ne

Such was my fickle temperament
That in no place under the sky could I settle for good.

Nikala Kaabe Se Pathar Ki Mooraton Ko Kabhi
Kabhi Buton Ko Banaya Haram Nasheen Main Ne

At times I cleared the Kaʹba of stone idols,
But at times put statues in the same sanctuary;

Kabhi Main Zauq-e-Takalum Mein Toor Par Pohancha
Chupaya Noor-e-Azal Zair-e-Asteen Main Ne

At times, to savour talk, I went to Mount Sinai
And hid the eternal light in the folds of my sleeve;

Kabhi Saleeb Pe Apnon Ne Mujh Ko Latkaya
Kiya Falak Ko Safar, Chor Kar Zameen Main Ne

By my own people I was hung on the cross;
I travelled to the skies, leaving earth behind.

Kabhi Mein Ghaar-e-Hira Mein Chupa Raha Barson
Diya Jahan Ko Kabhi Jaam-e-Akhreen Main Ne

For years I hid in the Cave of Hira,
I served the world its last cup of wine;

Sunaya Hind Mein Aa Kar Surood-e-Rabbani
Pasand Ki Kabhi Yunan Ki Sar Zameen Main Ne

Arriving in India, I sang the Divine Song;
I took a fancy to the land of Greece;

Diyar-e-Hind Ne Jis Dam Meri Sada Na Suni
Basaya Khitta-e-Japan-o-Mulk-e-Cheen Main Ne

When India did not heed my call,
I went to live in China and Japan;

Banaya Zarron Ki Tarkeeb Se Kabhi Alam
Khilaf-e-Ma’ani-e-Taleem-e-Ahl-e-Deen Main Ne

I saw the world composed of atoms,
Contrary to what the men of faith taught.

Lahoo Se Laal Kiya Saikron Zameenon Ko
Jahan Mein Chair Ke Pikaar-e-Aqal-o-Deen Main Ne

By stirring up the conflict between reason and faith,
I soaked in blood hundreds of lands.

Samajh Mein Ayi Haqiqat Na Jab Sitaron Ki
Issi Khiyal Mein Raatain Guzar Deen Main Ne

When I failed to probe the reality of the stars,
I spent nights on end wrapped in thought.

Dra Sakeen Na Kalisa Ki Mujh Ko Talwarain
Sikhaya Masla-e-Gardish-e-Zameen Main Ne

The sword of the Church could not frighten me;
I taught the proposition of the revolving earth.

Kasish Ka Raaz Haweda Kiya Zamane Par
Laga Ke Aaeena-e-Aqal-e-Doorbeen Main Ne

I donned the lens of far‐seeing reason,
and told the world the secret of gravity.

Kiya Aseer Shuaon Ko, Barq-e-Muztir Ko
Bana Di Ghairat-e-Jannat Ye Sarzameen Main Ne

I captured rays and the restless lightning,
Making this earth the envy of paradise.

Magar Khabar Na Milli Ah! Raaz-e-Hasti Ki
Kiya Khird Se Jahan Ko Teh-e-Nageen Main Ne

But although my reason held the world captive to my ring,
Yet I remained ignorant of the secret of existence.

Huwi Jo Chashm-e-Muzahir Parast Wa Akhir
To Paya Khana-e-Dil Mein Isse Makeen Main Ne

When at last my eyes, worshippers of appearance, were opened,
I found it already lodged in the mansion of my heart!
