(Bang-e-Dra-036) Chand

Chand
The Moon

Mere Weerane Se Kouson Door  Hai Tera Watan
Hai Magar Darya’ay Dil Teri Kashish Se Moujzan

My desert from your native land how many a league divides!
Yet by your power the waters of my heart feels these rough tides.

Qasad Kis Mehfil Ka Hai Hai? Ata Hai Kis Mehfil Se Tu
Zard Ru Shayad Huwa Ranj-e-Reh-e-Manzil Se Tu

To what far gathering are you bound, what far gathering come?
Your face is blanched, as if from journeyings long and wearisome.

Afreenish Mein Sarapa Noor Tu, Zulmat Hun Main
Iss Seh Rozi Pe Lekin Tera Hum Qismat Hun Main

You in this universe all light, and I all darkness, share
One destiny together in our valley of despair;

Ah, Main Jalta Hun Souz-e-Ishtiaq-e-Deed Se
Tu Sarapa Souz Dagh-e-Minnat-e-Khursheed Se

I burn in a flame of longing, ah! burn for the gift of sight,
And you, all seared with fires of longing, bed the sun for light;

Aik Halqe Par Agar Qaeem Teri Rafter Hai
Meri Gardish Bhi Misal-e-Gardish-e-Parkaar Hai

And if your footsteps cannot stray from one fixed circle’s bound,
I too move in one circle as a compass‐hand moves round.

Zindagi Ki Rah Mein Sargardan Hai Tu, Heeran Hun Main
Tu Farozan Mehfil-e-Hasti Mein Hai, Souzan Hun Main

You roam forlorn life’s path to whose dull griefs I too am doomed,
You shining through creation’s throng, I in my flame consumed;

Main Rah-e-Manzil Mein Hun, Tu Bhi Rah-e-Manzil Mein Hai
Teri Mehfil Mein Jo Khamoshi Hai, Mere Dil Mein Hai

A long road lies before me and a long road waits for you;
The silence of your thronging skies is here in my heart too.

Tu Talab Khu Hai To Mera Bhi Yehi Dastoor Hai
Chandani Hai Noor Tera, Ishq Mera Noor Hai

My nature is like yours, you who were born to seek, to rove,
Though yours are silver rays—the light that guides my feet is love.

Anjuman Hai Aik Meri Bhi Jahan Rehta Hun Main
Bazm Mein Apni Agar Yakta Hai Tu, Tanha Hun Main

I too dwell among many: if you go companion-less
Amid the company of heaven, I know your loneliness;

Mehr Ka Partou Tere Haq Mein Hai Pegham-e-Ajal
Mehv Kar Deta Hai Mujh Ko Jalwa-e-Husn-e-Azal

And when for you the blaze of dawn proclaims extinction, I
Drown with you in the crystal glory of eternity.

Phir Bhi Ae Mah-e-Mubeen! Main Aur Hun Tu Aur Hai
Dard Jis Pehlu Mein Uthta Ho, Woh Pehlu Aur Hai

And yet, yet, radiant moon! we are not of one race; it is
No heart like your heart that can feel and tell its miseries.

Garcha Main Zulmat Sarapa Hun, Sarapa Noor Tu
Saikron Manzil Hai Zauq-e-Aghi Se Door Tu

Though you are of light, and I of darkness made, you are
Still far from thirst of consciousness, a thousand journeys far;

Jo Meri Hasti Ka Maqsad Hai, Mujhe Maloom Hai
Ye Chamak Woh Hai,Jabeen Jis Se Teri Mehroom Hai

Before my soul the path lies clear in view that it must trace—
No gleam of knowledge such as mine will ever light your face.
