(Armaghan-e-Hijaz-31) Azad Ki Rag Sakht Hai Manid Rag-e-Sang (آزاد کی رگ سخت ہے مانند رگ سنگ) A free man’s vein is hard like stone’s

(10)
Azad Ki Rag Sakht Hai Manind Rag-E-Sang
Mehkoom Ki Rag Naram Hai Manind-E-Rag-E-Taak

A free man’s vein is hard like stone’s,
a slave’s is tender like vine’s;

Mehkoom Ka Dil Murda-O-Afsurda-O-No Meed
Azad Ka Dil Zinda-O-Pursoz-O-Tarab Naak

A slave’s heart is dead, frustrated and never sees the light of hope;
A free man’s heart is alive, full of zest and happiness.

Azad Ki Doulat-E-Dil Roshan, Nafs-E-Garam
Mehkoom Ka Sarmaya Faqt Didah’ay Namnaak

A free man’s wealth, a shining heart and warm breath,
that of slave, only moist eyes.

Mehkoom Hai Begana’ay Ikhlas-O-Marawwat
Har Chand K Mantaq Ki Daleelon Mein Hai Chalaak

The slave lacks sincerity and generosity
though he be adept in argumentation.

Mumkin Nahin Mehkoom Ho Azad Ka Hamdosh
Woh Banda’ay Aflak Hai, Ye Khawajah’ay Aflak

And never the twine shall be equal,
the one is slave to fate, the other, master of fate.

  3. Aflaak ka matlab zara wazih karain? Aflaak falak ka jama hai... us ka matlab asmaan hay. tho yahan par meaning qismat ki arahi hay.. mehrabani karky wazahat kijiay?

    My rendering (not translation) of this poem is:
    The Will of the Free is tough as tempered steel!
    The will of the Slave is limp as a lemon peel!

    The soul of the Slave is sad & sick with despair;
    The soul of the Free is compassionate & sincere!

    The heart of the Free is stout & steeped in passion;
    The heart of the Slave is weak & timid to a fashion!

    The Slave's pride & honour is a garment rent!
    He cloaks his timidity of soul behind hot argument!

    The Free & the Slave both be men in gender? It's a blatant lie!
    The Slave slaves under the sky! The Free rules the sky!
